Description
No. 47 High Street is an early 19th-century building that stands four storeys tall with a stucco front, which covers an older structure likely dating back to the 16th century. The top storey is set back and features wide eaves supported by brackets. The building has incised lines on the quoins and French casements on the first and second floors. It also includes iron balconies adorned with Greek ornamentation, with two windows on each floor. The shopfront is modern, and the roof is not visible. Inside, there are some original features, including an important first-floor open gallery that leads to a 17th-century rear block, which retains its original balusters. This building was originally paired with No. 46 and is part of a group that includes Nos. 39 to 47, which are of collective historical significance.
