Description

Brook Cottage is a cottage, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble or brick stacks topped with plaster and a thatched roof. The cottage originally comprised two rooms facing southwest, with a central through-passage containing a staircase. The left room has a rear lateral stack, while the right room features a projecting end stack. The front facade has an irregular arrangement of three windows, housing 19th and 20th century casements with glazing bars. The front door, slightly right of centre, has a late 19th century plank door beneath a contemporary tiled hood with shaped raking brackets. The roof is hipped to the left and gable-ended to the right, with the projecting stack on the right having weathered offsets. The interior reflects mostly 19th and 20th century modernization, with structural timbers either removed or covered, and fireplaces blocked. The roof was not inspected.
