Description
Cobwebs is a medium-sized house in Upton Pyne, formerly known as Robin's Farm. It likely has a core that dates back to the 17th century but has been significantly extended and altered in the 18th century and later. The building features a long, narrow cob range set on a stone plinth, topped with a thatched roof, gabled ends, and eyebrow eaves. It is two storeys high with five stacks, although only two end stacks, one with a side oven, are still functional. The two axial stacks and a truncated back stack, which has an adjacent redundant stair turret, no longer have fireplaces.
The back windows, which face the lane, are small and irregularly placed at ground level. While the casements are from the 20th century, the embrasures appear to be original. The front of the building has been refenestrated, and there are currently two entrances. The main entrance is to the left of a noticeable change in the direction of the cob wall, likely indicating a break in the building's history. The roof consists of ten bays, with principal rafters that are tenoned and side pegged, and there is no evidence of smoke blackening. The ceiling joists are large, simply chamfered trunks.
