Description

This tomb chest, located 12 metres south-south-east of Sowton Parish Church, dates from 1734. It is made of stone and features depressed panels on its sides and ends. The lid is bolection moulded and has a Latin inscription, although the name is indecipherable. The tomb chest also has a moulded plinth. It is possible that the chest itself was made later than the lid.
