Description
Nos. 9 and 10 on Sowton Lane are two dwellings that were formerly a single farmhouse, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. The original layout is not entirely clear, but it is thought to have been a three-room plan house, with heated principal rooms at either end and an unheated service room in the center. The left-hand room was heated by an axial stack, which has since been dismantled, while the right-hand room was heated by an internal end stack.
The building has two storeys. The front of No. 9, located on the left, features two 2-light casement windows on the first floor, and a 3-light casement window on either side of the doorway, which is sheltered by a tiled porch and has a half-glazed door. No. 10, which makes up most of the former farmhouse and is situated to the right of the now partly dismantled axial stack, has two 3-light 19th-century casement windows on the first floor and two irregularly placed ground floor windows, both with three lights, located on either side of a planked doorway that has a porch similar to that of No. 9.
