Description

Nos. 11, 12, and 13 on Sowton Lane are three dwellings that were originally a single farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century, with later modifications. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring burnt headers that create a chequerboard effect, and has a hipped slate roof. Originally designed as a three-room plan house, the layout includes a left-hand room that was heated by a rear stack, which has since been dismantled, while the other two rooms share an axial stack located to the right of center, complete with a brick shaft.

The building is two storeys tall and has a front that displays a regular six-window range. There are five windows on the ground floor, one of which is a replacement for a previously blocked window; all feature two lights and cambered window arches. The entrance is positioned to the left and is accompanied by a hipped slate-roofed open porch. A small window is located between the floors to the left, and since 1962, two full dormers have been added, along with an oculus at the ground floor of the left-hand end. The original early 18th-century features include this oculus, the window embrasures on the front, and the concave moulded fascia on the front and left-hand end. The irregular fenestration at the rear has been altered post-1962.
