Description
Court Lodge is a former lodge dating from 1834, originally part of Bishop’s Court. It is constructed of snecked limestone with a gabled slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan with two rooms, a central axial stack with a 20th-century brick shaft, and is arranged over one and a half storeys. The front elevation, facing the drive, features a gabled porch on the right with a wavy bargeboard and an elliptical, chamfered stone arch. To the left of the porch is a two-light casement window with a transom, and a half dormer with a traceried triangular head above a two-light casement window. The left-hand end faces the road with a two-light canted bay, and a single lancet window to the gable. Prominent bargeboarding is present. The right-hand end has a two-light casement window with a hood mould to the gable, and a canted bay window at ground floor level. A two-storey rear wing has been added in the 20th century, built of reconstituted stone on the ground floor and slate-hung above. The lodge is accompanied by limestone gate piers of square section with pyramidal caps, and a wooden gate with traceried detailing and fleur-de-lis to the upper rail. These elements are also included in the listing.
