Description
Sowton Village Hall is a village hall that was formerly a school and may have originally been a barn connected to the nearby cottages at numbers 14-15 Sowton Lane. It is likely from the 18th century and has undergone significant alterations. The building is constructed from random rubble Heavitree stone with brick patching and window surrounds, topped with a hipped thatched roof. It is a tall single storey structure.
The front features a three-window arrangement, with each window being tall and round-headed, consisting of two lights, a transom, and coarse quatrefoil head tracery, all with brick surrounds. Above each window, there is a small eyebrow eave. On the left-hand internal end, there is a stack with a tall square-headed window that has two lights and a transom. The hall is included for its group value, as it is situated in an important location opposite the parish church.
