Description
Straitgate Farmhouse is a 17th and 18th century building that has been altered and is now divided into two dwellings. The structure is made of cob with a brick-faced east end and features a half hipped thatch roof. It has five first-floor casement windows, one of which is a semi-dormer, and the windows have been renewed. At the rear, there is a projecting wing with a room above and a door below that leads into a passage running through the center of the house. A small wooden gabled porch with a slate roof adds to its charm. An attractive avenue of trees, mostly beeches, leads up to the house.
Inside, the 17th century eastern part of the farmhouse boasts massive hewn chamfered beams and a wide fireplace with a stop chamfered beam. The 18th century western part features cased beams and windows with wood panelled reveals. A six-panel rear door has replaced the former door, which had strap hinges on lugs.
