Description
Ellerhayes Bridge is a road bridge over the River Culm, possibly dating from the 15th century, with later alterations and repairs. It is constructed from coursed rubble volcanic trap, known as Killerton stone. The bridge features four main two-centred arches and two flood arches, with the easternmost flood arch made of brick. Due to widening, each side of the bridge has a distinctly different appearance. The north side, which is downstream, has double chamfered arches and four cutwaters, with the two cutwaters on the east being higher than those on the west. The south side has later unchamfered arches and a string course at the level of the cutwater caps. Both sides have chamfered coping stones on the parapet walls.
