Description
The Anchor Inn is a building located on the west side of Old Fore Street, dating back to 1633, with alterations made around 1840. It features a two-storey stuccoed front with a plinth and a low-pitched gable end slate roof with bracketed eaves. On the first floor, there are four recessed sash windows with later glazing bars and block sills.
The ground floor has several distinct features arranged from left to right: a yard entrance with double doors beneath a lintel with a moulded surround, a narrow door with a rectangular fanlight and a reeded doorcase topped by a pointed leaded hood on shaped brackets, a tripartite sash window with later glazing bars, a wider entrance with a similar doorcase but with a shaped tent hood on brackets, another tripartite sash window adjacent to the main entrance, which has a reeded doorcase and a broad hipped leaded hood, and a small stuccoed projecting bay with a side entrance at the far end.
The listed buildings on the west side of Old Fore Street form a group value context.
