Early C19 villa. Two storeys stuccoed. Originally L plan with slightly taller projecting block. This now forms the centre of the south front as a two storey wing was added in 1952 designed in complete sympathy with original structure to balance east wing.

Low pitch hipped slate roof with very wide bracketed eaves. Two windows each on wings and two on centre block. Recessed sashes first floor most with glazing bars intact and Venetian shutters. French windows on ground floor, those on wings with marginal glazing, the two on centre block with Gothic pattern. Tent roof, trellis verandah to wings and east front. The latter has four similar windows and recessed door of six flush panels with rectangular fanlight. Two storeyed wing to north of two windows and two dormers.

Set in large garden with magnificent cedars.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning stayed here with her father and brothers 1833-35.
