Description
Kingdom Cottage is a cottage, reputedly formerly the old jail, dating from around the 16th century. It is constructed of stuccoed stone rubble and features a thatched roof with gabled ends. The building has two storeys and a three-window range, with 18th and 19th century three-light casements that have leaded panes. The central entrance has a flush panelled door topped with a hood supported by massive shaped brackets.
Inside, the cottage boasts jointed cruck trusses and retains the remains of a plank and muntin screen in the cross passage. There is a fireplace on the back wall with a chamfered lintel and chamfered stone jambs, as well as a four-centred arch stone chimneypiece in the rear room on the first floor. The ceilings feature stopped and chamfered beams, and there is a chamfered wooden mullion window at the rear. A datestone inside the cottage reads "1609".
