Description
The Faulkner Hotel, located at No. 3 York Terrace on The Esplanade, is a building from around 1810 that is part of a similar terrace. It features a three-storey stucco front with two windows, a cornice, and a parapet. The roof is a mansard style covered with slate and includes two dormers. The second-floor windows have recessed sashes with glazing bars only in the upper sash. The first floor has modern glazing in the French windows that open onto an altered balcony, which is supported by original Tuscan columns on modified bases and features a panelled entablature. The balcony has a tent-shaped canopy with trellis supports. The ground floor is rusticated and includes a rectangular bay window from around 1900, as well as a blind window with incised voussoirs under a flat arch. The entrance has a recessed door with two moulded panels and a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing. A glazed canopy has been added, projecting over the pavement. Between the columns supporting the balcony, there is a later arcaded balustrade. Nos 1 to 12 York Terrace form a group.
