Description
Beach House is a villa dating to around 1820, notable for its Gothic detailing. The three-story building is stucco faced, with prominent Ionic pilasters on either side. A two-story bow window extends from the right side of the entrance. The roof is slate, with decorative scalloped openwork eaves. The windows are arranged as three on the second floor, two each on the first and ground floors, and a tripartite window on the bow. The central light of the tripartite window and one first-floor window open as French casements. All the windows have four-centered heads, decorative marginal glazing, and hood moulds above. Delicate iron balconies, supported by elaborate brackets, are present on the first-floor windows, with the balcony on the bow featuring trellis supports for a tent-shaped canopy. A vaulted porch has four-centered arched openings supported by clustered shaft supports and fluted pilasters on the inner side, alongside flanking pilasters. A projecting frieze and moulded cornice extend at the corners, with an iron balustrade below. The front door is of four molded panels, with the upper two incorporating four-centered heads, and is topped by a four-centered arched fanlight. The reveals and soffit are deeply panelled. The rear elevation is clad in slate, featuring Gothic windows with marginal glazing and a Tuscan porch. Beach House is part of a group that includes the Mocha Cafe and Prospect Place.
