Description
Dukes, formerly two houses known as the Marlborough Hotel, is a three-storey, double-fronted stucco building set back from the Esplanade. The building is now a hotel. The left-hand house (formerly No. 1) features bowed sash windows and a modillion eaves cornice. The right-hand house (formerly No. 2) has been altered, giving it a fenestration that mimics an older style. The site of Dukes incorporates the location of an ancient chapel of St Peter, which was historically attached to a Cell of Otterton Priory. Most of the chapel was demolished in 1805, although fragments of the original stonework remain visible.
