Description

The Paver headstone, dated 1750, is located approximately 21 metres south of the tower of the Church of St Michael in Otterton. This Grade II listed headstone commemorates Roger Paver and is made of limestone. It features an upright slab that stands about 1.1 metres high with a shaped head. The front of the headstone is slightly bowed outward and has a bolection-moulded frame that ends in a bifurcated scroll at the top. Below this scroll is a winged cherub head in low relief, flanked by a skull and crossbones. The inscription begins with the word "here" in ornamental Gothic lettering, followed by Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the death of Roger Paver in 1750.
