SLADE LANE, SALCOMBE 1. 1633 REGIS Hermit's House SY 18 NE 15/168 II 2. Formerly known as Hermitage. Cell with pointed window and doorway cut out of rock. Reached by footpath from Slade house in wood not far to south of Slade Farmhouse. Constructed by Mrs Leigh in 1824. A young poet proposed to write an epic there.
