Description
The Hermitage is a detached house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built of rubble with freestone dressings, and has a slate roof with raised verges and ashlar stacks. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with two storeys, attics, and cellars.
The main part of the house has windows with single and two lights, featuring ovolo moulded and chamfered mullions and surrounds, some of which are under dripmoulds. A central, gabled porch, raised above the cellar, is approached by a flight of steps and has a segmental-headed outer doorway. A single-storey and basement extension is set back to the right, with a glazing bar sash window. To the left is a projecting two-bay wing, with the outer bay lower in height; this section has two-light casement windows in moulded mullions and surrounds, under dripmoulds. The two windows to the left of this wing have cinquefoil and trefoil heads, while the south gable end has two glazing bar sash windows on the ground floor.
A front garden wall, constructed of ashlar, runs along the front of the property and features an arcaded design with a moulded cornice.
