Description

Vealhays is a circa early 16th century hall house. It is a long rubble stone range set at a right angle to the road, with a thatched roof featuring gabled ends. The house has two storeys and a four-window front. Later casements with glazing bars are fitted in various window openings. A 20th-century thatched porch is located off-centre. The building has a stone ridge chimney stack with set-offs, a truncated chimney stack to the front, and another external stack at the rear. A rectangular staircase bay projects from the rear of the building. Inside, the original open hall retains jointed cruck trusses and wind braces. A partial plank and muntin screen is present at the higher end of the house. Inserted fireplaces feature chamfered stone jambs and chamfered timber bressummers, and the ceilings have stopped and chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
