Description

This is a pair of headstones located about 8 metres south-west of the tower of the Church of St Michael in Gittisham. They date from the late 18th century to early 19th century and are made of freestone. The southern headstone commemorates two members of the May family, with a memorial date of 1810. It features a round-headed design with a projecting moulding around the head that ends in carved flowers. An urn with drapes is also carved at the top, along with well-executed lettering. The northern headstone has an illegible inscription and a segmental arched head, with the moulding sweeping up to the left and right.
