Description
This is a group of a chest tomb and five headstones located approximately 3 meters southeast of the south aisle of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. Dating from around 1700, they are made of Marlstone and designed in the Baroque style.
The rectangular chest tomb features a moulded base and cover, with three shallow pilasters on each side. The south side displays two oval cartouches; one is framed by scrolls and bears a partly-legible inscription commemorating Robert King, while the other is framed by palm leaves and commemorates his daughter Joyce, who died in 1698.
The headstones have rectangular panels with two eared edges, framed by drapery, scrolls, and cherub heads. The inscriptions on the headstones commemorate Ann Watson, who died in 1690, John Watson, Eleanor Watson, who died in 1704, an unnamed individual who died in 1689, and Sarah Spurrier, who died in 1701.
