Description
Lewis Cottage and The Old Bakery are a pair of adjoining estate cottages, likely dating from the early 18th century. They are situated on the south side of Gittisham village, fronting the road. The cottages are constructed of flint rubble, with the front elevation faced in Flemish bond handmade brick. They have thatched roofs with a plain ridge, gabled at the ends, and brick stacks with ornamental cornices.
The cottages have a five-window front, which appears asymmetrical. They have C19 or C20 plank front doors. The windows are generally C19 or C20 timber casements with glazing bars. A two-light window is situated above the front door of The Old Bakery, and a ground floor bay shop window with small panes is to the right of the front door. The interior has not been inspected. The cottages contribute to the group value of an outstanding village.
