Description
The War Memorial Service Men's Club is a detached stucco house built around 1820-1830. It stands two storeys high with a gable end slate roof and projecting eaves. The symmetrical front faces Church Street and features three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor, with the right-hand window being blind. There is a central entrance with recessed sash windows that have intact glazing bars. The windows above the entrance have radial glazing with a round head.
A peaked roof trellis porch with a "Chinoiserie" pattern is boxed in behind. On the north-west gable end, there is a French window on the first floor with marginal glazing, accompanied by a well-crafted wooden balcony that has a tent-shaped canopy. The ground floor includes a two-light transomed casement window. Additionally, a single-storey hall has been added to the south-east in a style that is sympathetic to the original building.
The War Memorial Service Men's Club, along with Harston and Hope Cottage in Coburg Street, forms a cohesive group of buildings.
