Description

Ford House is a house dating from around 1840, constructed of cob on a stone plinth, rendered, and topped with a slate hipped roof that has brick stacks at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan, with stables located in the rear range of a small courtyard. It is two storeys high and has a front facade with three bays. All five windows feature two 3-pane casements with margin panes, with those on the ground floor positioned under small blind-boxes that are supported by brackets on the first floor. The entrance includes a panelled front door with a semi-circular fanlight and panelled reveals, and is sheltered by a wooden lattice-work porch with a moulded canopy.

The end wall facing Town Hill has two blocked windows, and attached to this wall is the former service wing, which has one 3-light casement window on each floor, with the first-floor window being original. The interiors of the front rooms include semi-circular niches, panelled internal shutters, and small moulded cornices. The staircase features single turned balusters. Access to the yard is through trap gatepiers.

The stables are built of stone rubble and have a slate roof. There is an open-fronted cart shed with a weatherboarded hayloft above. The stable retains its original features, including two stalls with mangers, the hayloft above, which is weatherboarded externally, and a tack room.
