Description
The Vicarage, located on the south side of The College, dates back to 1481 and is a Grade II listed building. The structure features a 19th-century block facing the churchyard, which is two stories high with three windows, constructed from local stone and adorned with two gabled half-dormers. At the rear, there are two additional blocks, with the central section believed to be the oldest part of the building. This central section includes a large bay with sash windows. Inside, the kitchen contains an old stone fireplace that is part of an earlier building. The rear of the Vicarage is roughcast and colourwashed. Notably, the father of the poet Coleridge served as the Vicar of Ottery and was the Master of the Kings School, although Coleridge himself was born in the now-demolished school-house located east of the Vicarage. The building is prominently situated near St Mary's Church.
