Description
This is a headstone dated 1790, located approximately 9 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Mary in Rockbeare. It commemorates Charles Clown and is made of limestone. The upright slab stands about 1.1 metres high and features a wave-shaped head. The inscription is surrounded by a very low bas relief arch with fluted pilasters and moulded caps. The round arch includes a biblical quotation, and at the top is a florette. The word "sacred" is inscribed in Gothic script, while the rest of the text is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of Charles Clown in 1790.
