Description

The former barn adjoining Drupe Cottage is a house that was originally a barn, likely built in the early to mid-17th century and refurbished in the late 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with some parts rebuilt using exposed stone rubble and brick, topped with a thatched roof. The barn faces the road to the southwest and features large opposing double doors that open onto what was once the threshing floor. At the southeastern end, there is a through-passage connecting the barn to No 1 Drupe Cottages.

To the left of the passage, there are late 19th-century double doors, each divided into two flaps, leading to the former threshing floor. Next to these doors is a plank door flanked by unglazed windows with plain frames and shutters. The barn's roof is lower than that of No 1 Drupe Cottages and has a gable end. The end wall is made of exposed rubble, with the upper part weather-boarded. The north elevation features timber lintels over three doorways, including a central doorway that retains a 17th-century chamfered doorframe and an old plank door with strap hinges.

Inside, the barn has a three-bay side-pegged jointed-cruck roof with slip tenons and trenched purlins. The east gable includes a 17th-century four-light wood-mullioned window. The barn was once used as a cider house and still contains the apple crusher.

This barn is part of a group with No 1 Drupe Cottages, Rose Cottage, and Nos 1 and 2 Baileys Cottages.
