Description
No 3 The Proopery, also known as Coxspur Cottage, is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century and was extended in the late 19th century. The original section is made of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, while the extension is constructed of brick. The building features stone rubble or brick stacks topped with late 19th-century brick, including one shaft with Rolle Estate chimney pots. The main house has a thatched roof, while the extensions have corrugated asbestos roofing.
The cottage has a two-room plan facing northwest, with central stairs and each room heated by end stacks, the right stack projecting slightly. At the right end, there is a single-storey store, and at the left end, a two-storey extension with a front corner stack that serves the first-floor room. The main house has a symmetrical two-window front with 20th-century casements, and only the ground floor windows have glazing bars. The central front door is a 20th-century plank door with a window.
Inside, no carpentry details are exposed, and the fireplaces are blocked. There is 19th-century joinery detail, and while the roof is inaccessible, the feet of the principals indicate A-frame trusses. The cottage was formerly known as Copplestone Cottage.
