Description
Coggins is a house dating from the late 17th century, with later modifications and extensions. It is constructed of cob and stone, rendered, and features a main range under a gabled-end thatched roof, while a single-storey left-hand extension has a hipped thatched roof. There are brick stacks, including an axial stack and a gable end stack, both raised in later brickwork. The main range is two storeys high and was originally a single-cell cottage of cob, to which a stone extension was added in the 18th century.
The front of the house, which faces away from the road, has a three-window range, all featuring late 19th-century (or later) timber two-light casements. The first-floor windows have lintels at wall-plate level. The rear includes slate-roofed lean-tos, three two-light late 19th-century timber casements, and one early 19th-century ground floor sash window without horns, which has four panes. The left-hand extension has one two-light window on each face. The interior has not been inspected, but one beam with a deep chamfer is visible in the older part of the house.
