Description

The Milford Arms is a public house located on Milford Street, originally built in the 15th or 16th century. It features a two-storey facade that was refronted in the 19th century, constructed from stucco with a block cornice and a deep parapet that is raised at the ends with coping. The first floor has six windows set within broad eared architraves. The ground floor includes heavy panelled piers that flank the yard entry on the left and at the right end, with bracketed segmental pedimented panels above. The pub front is divided into three bays by panelled pilasters, with a fascia above. The building was originally designed in an L shape, with the south range dating back to the 15th century and the rear wing from the 16th century. The ground floor has been gutted, but on the first floor, there is a complete partition truss with wattle and daub infilling and scissor bracing, along with the remains of another truss and a new roof. The east range features 16th-century framing on the first floor, including wall posts and tie beams, as well as remains of truss collars above the ceiling level, chamfered purlins, and some windbraces. The Milford Arms is part of a group with Nos 19A to 39 (odd).
