Description

27 and 29 Milford Street comprise two buildings of differing character. Number 27 is a 17th and 18th century structure, built of painted brick with an old tile roof concealed by bracketed, boxed eaves. It has three flush-framed windows with two lights, featuring heavy glazing bars, and a modern shop front to the ground floor. Number 29, likely dating from the early 19th century or potentially the 18th century but significantly altered, is roughcast with a cornice and a blocking course. It has a steep-pitched hipped slate roof and three storeys. The first floor has four sash windows with 19th-century glazing. A single similar window is also visible on the first floor, and the remains of a larger, early 19th-century window are present, now blocked. The window’s framing includes pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice broken up in the centre by a small pediment. A modern shop front occupies the ground floor. Numbers 27 and 29 form part of a group with numbers 19A to 39 (odd).
