Description
Pembroke Cottages is a row of four estate cottages built in 1859 for the Wilton Estate, located on the east side of Warminster Road in South Newton. The cottages feature a combination of flint and brick bands, topped with a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. They are two stories high and have four windows, with casements throughout. Each cottage has a planked door with a flat wooden hood above it, and on the ground floor, there are four groups of three round-arched casements. The first floor has four groups of two round-arched casements, and there is a carved stone tablet in the center displaying the date 1859 and the initials MP. The right and left sides of the cottages have 20th-century lean-to extensions and one round-arched casement each. The rear includes 20th-century lean-to extensions for Nos 2 and 3, with planked doors and steel casements on the ground floor, while the first floor has eight 2-light casements. The interiors have not been inspected. Pembroke Cottages is a good example of a Wilton Estate building in the Wylye valley and shares a similar style with Nos 1, 2, 3, and 4 Great Wishford.
