Description
No. 18 is a cottage located on The Street in Wilsford, dating from the 15th century or earlier. It features a timber frame with brick noggings and a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of five bays. It has four pairs of full crucks, with the third bay from the left originally serving as an open hall, which shows heavy smoke deposits on the roof members. The pair of crucks to the right of the hall has arch braces to the collar, and the crucks stop above the collar on the backs of the inner principal rafters that rise to the ridge. The opposite truss in the hall has crucks that rise to a saddle with a stilted post supporting a square set ridge. The right-hand gable truss also features knee braces and is half hipped, with spurs to carry the wallplates and a half dovetail below. A stack has been inserted at the east side of the hall. The external walls are two panels high, and the entrance is now located in an attached building at the rear. The cottage has timber casement windows, and there is a stack and a secondary door in the right gable.
