Description
Pear Tree Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of cob, which is rendered and painted, with brick dressings. The original thatched roof has been replaced with tiles. The building has two storeys and three bays, featuring a central through stair hall plan and a rear wing on the left, which is a later 18th-century service addition. The front has a central boarded door and a lean-to addition on the right. The windows are timber paned, and the roof is hipped.
Inside, there is a kitchen-living room with a major stack to the left of the hall and a parlour to the right. The roof structure consists of three bays, with raking struts supporting the lower mounted purlins and a collar for the upper purlins. The rear extension was originally a single bay but was raised to two storeys in the 19th century.
