Description
Church Farmhouse is an early 17th-century timber-framed farmhouse with brick infilling and a thatched roof. It is located in Pitton and Farley Townsend. The house originally comprised three and a half bays, with a lobby-entry plan. A further half-bay was added to the left in the late 17th century. The timber framing is of heavy scantling, standing three panels high, with corner braces forming horizontal rectangles. The left half of the left bay is framed on the rear elevation, while the remainder of the rear elevation has been replaced in brick. The farmhouse has iron casement windows dating from the early 19th century and three dormers. The roof is half-hipped to the right and hipped over the left extension. Inside, there is a central brick and chalk stack with a projecting oven in the left room. A staircase is situated against the stack within the lobby. The interior includes spine beams with step and scoop stops, rafters with raking struts to collars, clasped purlins, and windbraces to the end trusses only.
