Description
There are two chest tombs located in the churchyard about 4 meters and 9 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St Peter. Both tombs date from the 18th century and are made of ashlar stone.
The first tomb, which is 4 meters south of the chancel, is the Knight monument from the mid-18th century. It features a moulded base and cornice with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over a scroll-decorated center and angle piers. There are two shield plaques on each side, with a shield plaque at the east end and a lozenge at the west end. The inscription commemorates Alice Knight, who died in 177-.
The second tomb, located 9 meters south of the chancel, is an unidentified monument from the earlier part of the 18th century. It also has a moulded base and cornice, with a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over a fielded center and angle piers. This tomb features two arched-headed plaques on each side, complete with imposts and pendant keystones above the arches, as well as similar end plaques.
