Description

Maslen’s Farmhouse is a late 17th-century house, originally timber-framed, and now largely constructed of diaper brick with stone dressings. It has a thatched roof. The house is two storeys and an attic, with a semi-basement to the rear. A contemporary cross wing, of single storey and attic, is set against the side of the through hall, containing a kitchen and living room. A stone doorcase with a flat canopy supported on carved consoles frames the early 19th-century scratch-moulded front door. The windows are cross-windows, and details such as the moulded string and plinth are identical to those found at The Priory, Alton Priors. An earlier cross wing, likely of three bays, features a large stone fireplace with a timber fire lintel in the living room. The staircase dates from around 1700, and there are dormer windows in the roof.
