Description
The Priory is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed with diaper Flemish brickwork and featuring both slate and tiled roofs. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a main block that includes four window bays and a contemporary kitchen wing. The entrance, which has been reset in the end bay, is accessed through a bolection moulded stone doorcase that is reached by three steps. The house has stone cross windows with brick relieving arches on both floors, along with a moulded plinth and a mid-wall string. A large brick stack is located laterally to the end bay at the junction of the wing, with offsets above the eaves. The roof includes a gablet and an attic window. The entrance bay has been altered, and the entrance is likely to have been re-sited. Inside, there is a large monolithic stone lintel above the living room fireplace, and a reset moulded stone lintel with spandrels in the kitchen, which backs onto the same stack. The building's plan was reorganized around 1970. The Priory is the remains of a larger house that was reduced in size in the early 19th century.
