Description
The Round House and Lock is a watchman's cottage located on the Stroudwater, Thames and Severn Canal, built in 1790. It is constructed of rendered brick and features a slate roof. The building has a circular plan and stands three storeys high, with a two-storey lean-to at the rear. There are entrances at ground level leading to a stable, and a raised entrance over steps at the first floor level leading to the dwelling. The windows are timber casements, and both the doors and windows have pointed arched heads. There is an offset in the wall near the top. The associated canal lock includes stone recesses for gates, a spillway, and grooves for sluices. At the time of inspection in April 1985, the brick walling was undergoing reconstruction.
