Description

38 and 40 High Street is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of malmstone with a line-rendered front and has a slate roof. The building is originally a single storey and attic that has been raised to two storeys. It features three bays, with an additional 19th-century bay on the left side. The entrance is offset and consists of a six-panelled and fielded door with a moulded architrave and a flat canopy supported by cut brackets. The windows are twelve-paned sashes with boxes that are set well forward. There is a stack on the left gable, located before the extension. The extension has a similar appearance but features a lower pitched roof and sashes set in rebates. Additionally, there is a three-bay, two-storey brick wing added to the rear in the 19th century.
