Description
Greystones House is a house with an office, dating from the early 18th century. It features a rendered greensand exterior and a tiled roof, with two storeys and a cellar. The building has three bays, with a central stair hall flanked by reception rooms and a rear wing on the left that contains a dining room and kitchen. The central entrance has a panelled door set in a round arched opening. The east gable end displays twelve-paned sash windows and Venetian windows on both floors. At the east end, there is a lean-to block, now used as an office, which likely originates from an independent 17th-century house. The kitchen in the rear extension includes an early 19th-century Gothic ogee-headed timber and leaded window.
Inside, there are timber-framed partitions in the hall. The early 19th-century dog leg stair features stick balusters and brackets on the treads. The rear wing contains an angle fireplace and an early 18th-century cupboard with a wavy splat vent above, along with ogee stops on the chamfered spine beam, a detail that is also found in the cellar beneath the front room. The office has a deep chamfered ceiling beam with a bar and octagon stops, along with a similar cross beam in the cellar.
