Description

Swallett House is an early 18th-century house situated on the north side of Main Road, Christian Malford. It is built of rubble stone with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped stone slate roof. The main range is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The windows are cyma-moulded recessed mullion windows; three-light on each side, and a two-light window to the centre above the front door, which is set within a moulded architrave with a pediment supported by consoles. Flush quoins, a moulded plinth, a dripcourse, and a coved eaves cornice are also present. An ashlar ridge stack is visible on the west front, along with a dormer window to the right, a casement pair on the first floor, and two-light windows. The ground floor features a three-light window, a doorway, a two-light window, and another doorway. The doors have beaded lintels and hoods supported by brackets, likely dating back to the 19th century. The north end is hipped, with a dormer window and a coved cornice. The east wall of the main range features two-light windows on both floors, and an attic dormer. A long, 19th-century roughcast wing extends to the north-east, incorporating an original ashlar rear stack on the ridge, a brick ridge stack and an end stack. This wing has three dormers, a coved cornice, three first-floor casement pairs, and a lean-to ground floor with stone slates.
