Description
Swallett Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse situated on the main road in Christian Malford. The building is constructed of rubble stone with some painted brick, and has slate roofs with coped gables and end stacks. It is two storeys and has an attic.
The south front is formal, with three windows, and is built of rubble stone with flush quoins and hollow-moulded recessed mullion windows. These windows are three-light on each side, with a two-light window in the centre. A six-panel door is set within a Tudor arched doorcase, and is sheltered by a 19th-century timber gabled porch. A dripcourse with pendant hoodmoulds runs above the ground-floor windows. The east end is of rubble stone and incorporates an attic light. A north-east rear wing has a ridge stack and a coped gable. On the first floor of this wing are two two-light windows, while the ground floor has a lean-to. The end-wall attic has a triple casement window, and the first floor features two two-light windows. The north end wall of the main range is of painted brick with a dripcourse, and has a single light window on each floor. A painted brick north-east rear wing with a coped gable has a two-light window on each floor, as well as a door to the left. A further extension protrudes to the east, with a door, casement windows, and an end stack.
The farmhouse is said to have been owned by the Hull family for 300 years.
