Description
Bridge House is a 17th-century house located in Castle Combe, constructed from rubble stone and featuring stone tiled roofs. It has one-and-a-half storeys and is divided into three sections. The central section has a large gable facing the street, with paired 8-pane sash windows on the first floor set in a chamfered surround, complete with a hoodmould above and a cyma-moulded mullion. On the ground floor, there is a window to the right under a timber lintel with an iron opening light, and to the left, a three-light double chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould. The ground floor windows have leaded lights.
To the left of the central section is a single window range that resembles the Old Post Office next door. There is a dormer gable featuring a three-light recessed ovolo-moulded mullion window with an iron opening light, as well as a door with a timber lintel and a single light window in a chamfered surround. Continuous stonework connects this section to the Old Post Office.
Incorporated into the building is No. 1 Water Lane, which dates from the mid-18th century. This part has end wall stacks, two storeys and an attic, and features a two-window range. It includes two hipped dormers, two first floor flush cyma-moulded two-light mullion windows, and one ground floor three-light cyma-moulded window with a dripstone. There is also a door to the left, set within a stone tiled and rendered porch that incorporates a bay window to the left. A low stone wall connects the porch of Bridge House to the porch of No. 2 Water Lane.
