Description
The Alexander Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 11 meters south of the east end of the south aisle of the Church of St Matthew. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded base and capstone, with two raised oval plaques on each side. These plaques are decorated with foliate scroll designs on the central pier, flanked by plain outer piers. On the south side, there are inscriptions commemorating Thomas Alexander, who died in 1875, and Mary Alexander, who died in 1846.
