Description
Hillside is an early 19th-century front to an 18th-century house located to the south of Dunkirk House. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, constructed of rendered red brick. It features thin flanking Tuscan pilasters with stone capitals that rise to a shallow block string. A stone modillion cornice and parapet with stone coping adorn the top. The front of the house slightly projects at the center.
On the first floor, there are three recessed sash windows without glazing bars, each with keystones that extend up to the string and block sills. The ground floor has two large two-light sash windows, also without glazing bars and with block sills. The central door, originally a five-panel design, retains two fielded panels while the others are now glazed. It is framed by a broad stone architrave doorcase that has been painted, topped with a flat stone hood supported by cut brackets. The entrance is partly obscured by a 19th-century gabled open wood porch featuring bargeboards. The house is capped with a gable-end slate roof, complete with stone saddlestones, mitre finials, and a stone ridge.
Hillside and Dunkirk House, along with their garden walls, form a cohesive group.
