Description

The Queen's Head Inn, nos. 12 to 14 Dunkirk, is part of a small terrace of 18th-century buildings, with nos. 15, 16 and 17 having been demolished. Nos. 12 and 13 are two-storey buildings of red brick with gable-end slate roofs and eaves bands. They each have one coupled sash window on each floor, with intact glazing bars, flat moulded stone surrounds, and block sills. The recessed door of no. 12 has six panels, two of which are glazed, and a flat stone hood supported by cut brackets. The recessed door of no. 13 has four modern panels within a stone surround.

No. 14, The Queen's Head Inn itself, is also two-storey, constructed of red brick with grey headers and a brick band between the floors. It features a central door of six panels, sheltered by a fine Doric porch with two free-standing columns, pilasters to the wall, an entablature, and a pediment, all made of painted stone. Two recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars and moulded stone surrounds are to the right of the door. To the left of the door is a two-storey canted brick bay of three similar windows with a flat roof and a small cornice. Further to the left of the bay are a three-light casement window on the first floor and a coupled window on the ground floor, both within moulded stone surrounds. The Inn and the surviving buildings together create an attractive group on the north approach to Devizes.
