Description

The Old Porch in the garden of No. 44, located on St Anne's Street, is a reset 15th-century porch facing west. It features late 15th-century to 16th-century buttresses and other old fragments, with brickwork dating from the early 19th century, giving it the appearance of a "ruin." The porch has a low ashlar plinth and a richly moulded three-canted arch, with ogee and roll moulded chamfered outer strips. The spandrels are carved, and there is a deep cavetto rectangular surround. Some reset carved stones can be found above the arch. The porches at Nos 44 to 74 (even) and Nos 78 to 82 (even) form a fine group.
