Description

Nos 34 and 36 St Ann Street are a pair of buildings dating from the 18th century, with earlier elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are two storeys high with an attic and feature a front made of white mathematical tiles. The first floor overhangs on a deep stucco moulded band supported by three irregularly spaced scrolled consoles. The gable end has an old tiled roof.

On the first floor, there are three hipped dormers, each with a small bracketed cornice and three-light casements. To the left, there is an angular bay window with a moulded cornice and a panelled apron. The ground floor has an 8-panel central door with a radiating fanlight, set within a rusticated stucco surround and flanked by Doric pilasters. This is topped by a porch supported by two Doric columns, which carry an entablature and pediment. To the left of the door are two windows, while to the right are three windows and two six-panel secondary doors. The windows are flush framed sashes with intact glazing bars on the loft, and there are panelled shutters on the ground floor.

No 38, adjacent to these buildings, features ground floor panelling from the 17th century and an Ionic pilaster frame around the fireplace. It also has a notable fireplace in the first-floor drawing room, with a ceiling cove decorated with late 18th to early 19th century sepia panels depicting Music and Painting. No 34 includes a room with 16th-century panelling and a fireplace.

Nos 32 to 42 (even) form a group with these buildings.
